“Where’s The Figs?”

Luke 13:1-9

Lent 3C Sunday, March 23rd, 2025

What is the message about? . . .

Jesus loved to make his teaching clear by telling stories about things that were very familiar with his hearers. Figs were one of the first fruits to ever be cultivated and preserved and were an important part of the first-century diet. Jesus uses a fig tree to demonstrate that something may take up space, time, energy and resources for a time before the rewards of its existence become clear. If we are working for the good, there is sometimes no immediate, gratifying return. If we are patient, however, we create an opportunity for immense blessing! What happens when we care for and feed things simply for the sake of doing the right thing? Let’s dig a little deeper this Sunday morning. We’ll save you a seat!
